[English text below] Terletak di ujung jalan berbelok dalam kompleks perumahan, tapak berada di tepi lembah curam yang luas dengan pemandangan 270 derajat. Namun, area sekitar yang juga menghadap lembah cukup padat dan mencakup zona pembuangan sampah, mengurangi daya tarik visualnya. Lahan ini menawarkan potensi besar untuk pengolahan kontur, lanskap, dan panorama cakrawala, tetapi juga menghadirkan tantangan dalam menyeimbangkan privasi, isu sosial, serta kebutuhan ruang pemilik.

Studiork merancang hunian yang bernapas—terang, berventilasi alami, dan teduh. Massa bangunan yang terdiri dari beberapa volume kecil dan kompak dikontraskan dengan bukaan strategis dari berbagai sisi, termasuk skylight di atap. Jarak antar massa dan perimeter tapak dioptimalkan untuk pencahayaan alami serta sirkulasi udara yang sehat.

Setiap bukaan dilengkapi elemen yang dapat disesuaikan untuk perlindungan terhadap serangga, keamanan, serta akses udara segar dari vegetasi sekitar. Alih-alih dinding masif, koridor pohon tinggi berfungsi sebagai batas ruang, menciptakan privasi alami sekaligus menyuplai udara segar dan pemandangan.

Lanskap dan vegetasi menjadi bagian integral dari desain sejak awal, diintegrasikan dengan struktur, suplai air, dan sistem drainase untuk memastikan pertumbuhan yang berkelanjutan. Faktor seperti intensitas cahaya, suhu, kelembapan, dan pola angin menentukan pemilihan spesies, ukuran, dan kepadatannya.

Seiring waktu, vegetasi bukan sekadar elemen dekoratif, tetapi membentuk pengalaman ruang, mendefinisikan batas, serta menciptakan urutan visual dari dasar hingga fasad dan atap.

Arsitektur ini menggabungkan bentuk melayang, menjulang, dan horizontal dalam permainan material dan tekstur. Bukaan serta lanskap diintegrasikan untuk menyatukan interior dan eksterior, menciptakan lingkungan yang nyaman secara privat maupun publik. (uci)

OHIO House

[English text provided by architects] Situated at the end of a cornering street in a serene premium housing complex, the site also sits at the edge of a steep and wide valley, offering a 270-degree view of the clear skyline. Unfortunately, the surrounding neighborhood with valley-view access is quite densely populated and includes trash dumping areas, making it less visually appealing. This site presents great potential for contouring, landscaping, and panoramic skyline views, but also poses challenges in balancing privacy, addressing social issues, and accommodating the extensive space requirements of the homeowners.

Studiork’s vision is to create architectural living spaces that breathe—bright, naturally ventilated, and well-shaded. The design accommodates the homeowner’s 3.5-story space requirement by combining several small, solid, and compact masses. These are counterbalanced with numerous windows and openings strategically punctured through the volumes—from front to rear, side to side, and from the bottom floor to the rooftop skylight. The architect ensures sufficient separation between masses and the site perimeter, allowing for maximum natural light and healthy air circulation.

Each room’s openings incorporate adjustable and breathable elements, offering protection from insects and ensuring security while allowing fresh air from the surrounding trees and shrubs. Instead of solid walls, the design utilizes corridors of towering trees to define spatial boundaries, creating a natural privacy buffer and contributing to fresh air circulation and scenic views.

Landscaping and vegetation are integral design elements from the very beginning of the process. They are carefully embedded within the structural framework and integrated with the water supply and drainage system to ensure healthy and sustainable plant growth across different microclimates within the building. Factors such as sun exposure, temperature, humidity, wind patterns, and architectural intentions determine the selection of plant species, sizes, shapes, and densities.

Over time, greenery becomes an integral part of the living architecture, shaping the indoor-outdoor experience. These plants are more than decorative elements—they define spatial boundaries and create a layered sequence from the base to the facade and the roof of the house.

Ultimately, the architecture expresses a simple yet dynamic combination of floating, towering, and horizontal forms, materiality, and textures. At the same time, it seamlessly integrates openings and landscaping, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. This approach results in an environment that is both privately intimate and publicly engaging.
