A contemporary reflection on one of Indonesia’s most significant hospitality legacies.

The book Tropical Indulgence traces the transformation of the former Bali Beach Hotel into The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel, inaugurated in 2025, carrying a modernist landmark from the Soekarno era into the present day.

Staged before the monumental stone mural commissioned by President Soekarno and carved by Harijadi Soemadidjaja, the exhibition unfolds in direct dialogue with history. Incomplete yet enduring, the mural bears witness to political shifts, neglect, and survival, anchoring the exhibition between memory and renewal.
