100 House

[English text below, provided by the architect] Rumah ini dinamai 10º House karena sumbu fasadnya dimiringkan 10 derajat ke arah timur.

100 House

The house is named 10º House because the axis of its façade is tilted 10 degrees to the east. This renovation project transforms an old house into a contemporary tropical residence that combines strong material expression with a refined spatial composition. Its exterior is defined by monolithic board-formed concrete façades, creating a raw yet carefully composed aesthetic. The interplay between solid walls and openings is designed precisely, allowing natural light to enter while maintaining privacy from the street.

The overall massing is sculptural and geometric, with interlocking and cantilevered volumes that create dynamic shadow play. The rough texture of concrete is balanced by the warmth of vertical wooden cladding, producing a harmony between industrial character and natural tactility. A minimalist garden at the entrance softens the rigid architectural lines and provides a calm transition between exterior and interior spaces.

Inside, the open-plan layout connects the living room, dining area, and kitchen through inner courtyards and sliding glass partitions, maintaining continuous visual connectivity. Skylights and full-height openings maximize natural lighting, while greenery within the courtyards improves cross-ventilation and thermal comfort suited to the tropical climate.

Material continuity plays an important role in shaping the atmosphere of the house. Polished concrete floors, warm timber ceilings, and clean white walls create a calm yet elegant interior. The exposed concrete kitchen island becomes both a functional element and a sculptural centerpiece, while linear wooden ceiling slats with concealed lighting add warmth and rhythm to the minimalist composition.

The private areas are designed with the same level of detail. In the bathroom, gray stone surfaces are paired with a turquoise cylindrical basin as a bold artistic accent. Indirect lighting enhances the textures and creates a more intimate and relaxing atmosphere.

Overall, the house presents a harmonious dialogue between mass and void, material and nature, as well as opacity and transparency. Through a restrained yet thoughtful design approach, 10º House responds to the tropical climate while maintaining a strong architectural character that feels both contemporary and serene.
