LDT Villa: Kesederhanaan yang Bernapas di Ubud

[English text below] LDT Villa di Lodtunduh, Ubud, menjadi proyek pertama yang memperlihatkan cara berpikir arsitektur UOS: sederhana, namun penuh pertimbangan terhadap konteks, proporsi, dan performa ruang. Proyek ini berawal dari rumah kecil yang diubah menjadi vila. Berdiri di atas lahan seluas 200 meter persegi dengan bangunan 150 meter persegi, proyek ini memiliki skala yang menantang. Namun, keterbatasan tersebut justru melahirkan solusi desain yang padat dan efisien.

Tiga prinsip utama menjadi dasar rancangan: proporsi, performa bangunan, dan visual. Sebagai arsitek Bali, kesadaran terhadap proporsi menjadi hal yang melekat. Dari tapak yang memanjang barat–timur, orientasi bangunan diputar ke utara–selatan untuk menangkap sumber daya alami seperti cahaya dan angin. Pendekatan ini menegaskan prinsip form follows environment, bukan sekadar form follows function. Bentuk bangunan lahir dari respons terhadap iklim, arah matahari, dan lanskap sawah di sekitarnya.

Ruang-ruang diatur secara kompak dengan living room sebagai titik utama aktivitas. Area servis ditempatkan sebagai buffer antara ruang privat dan jalan di depan. Prinsip bahwa “bangunan harus bisa bernapas” diterapkan melalui ventilasi silang, celah pada atap miring, dan bukaan besar yang memungkinkan cahaya serta angin mengalir alami.

Pemilihan material berpijak pada konteks lokal: bata dan batu paras yang mencerminkan karakter Ubud. Warna interior cenderung gelap untuk mengurangi silau dari bukaan besar sekaligus menjaga keseimbangan termal ruang. Dengan bentuk atap bertumpuk, ritme bidang, dan permainan cahaya, LDT Villa tidak tampil mencolok. Namun, proyek ini tetap memiliki identitas kuat—sebuah arsitektur yang benar, baik, dan menarik dalam kesederhanaannya. (uci)

LDT Villa: Breathing Simplicity in Ubud

Located in Lodtunduh, Ubud, LDT Villa marks the first project to reflect UOS’s architectural mindset—simple yet deeply considerate of context, proportion, and spatial performance. What began as a small house became a compact villa. Built on a 200-square-meter plot with a 150-square-meter building, the project presented challenges in scale. Yet, these limitations became a catalyst for creating dense, efficient, and thoughtful design solutions.

Three guiding principles shaped the design: proportion, building performance, and visual clarity. As a Balinese architect, sensitivity to proportion comes naturally. On a site that stretches from west to east, the building was reoriented north–south to harness natural resources such as light and wind. This approach reinforces the idea of form follows environment—not merely form follows function. The architecture emerged as a direct response to the climate, sun path, and the surrounding rice field landscape.

Spaces are organized compactly, with the living room serving as the heart of activity. Service areas act as buffers between private zones and the front street. The belief that “a building should breathe” is realized through cross ventilation, roof gaps, and large openings that allow light and air to flow naturally.

Material selection draws from the local context—brick and paras stone that embody Ubud’s character. The interior adopts darker tones to reduce glare from large openings while maintaining thermal comfort. With layered roofs, rhythmic planes, and subtle light play, LDT Villa avoids visual excess. Yet within its quiet simplicity lies a strong identity—architecture that is honest, refined, and quietly compelling. (uci)
