(afm/uci)
SCEW Videotron Gallery: A Dialogue Between Architecture and Technology

The SCEW Videotron Gallery was designed to serve as a medium for showcasing SCEW Videotron’s products and technological experiences. As a company specializing in videotron, LED, and interactive TV, they sought a gallery that would reflect their technological identity. Spasi Architects, as the appointed architects, responded by implementing an empathetic-progressive approach—a design philosophy that balances human/user empathy with a spirit of innovation and technological advancement.

Located in Sidoarjo, the SCEW Videotron Gallery acts as a space for dialogue among visitors/users, the gallery, and the technology products, with the Videotron being the main subject. Explorations into videotron placement were conducted to create distinct spatial experiences in every area of the building. This process led to the idea of positioning the videotron as a central object visible from various angles. This design allows visitors to navigate a sequence of spaces as if moving around the videotron.
The videotron becomes clearly visible as visitors ascend the stairs and enter the gallery area on the second floor. Its position serves as the climax of the spatial experience for gallery visitors. Interestingly, the videotron can only be fully appreciated from inside the building. The view from the garden only reveals the back of the videotron, thus creating a sense of curiosity.

The decision to place the videotron at the center of attention makes the gallery’s design not merely functional but also conceptual: presenting technology as a spatial narrative that can be felt, not just seen. (uci)
