Atelier Riri Launches A Design For Life, a Book of Reflection and Inspiration

Practicing for more than 10 years, Architect Novriansyah Yakub, or colloquially addressed as Riri, decided to publish his own book titled A Design for Life. The book launching event, taking place in American Standard Showroom in Jakarta, was held on Friday, 24th August 2018, which was followed by a book discussion session with Ren Katili as the Moderator. During the event, Riri elaborated his story of becoming an architect he is now, leading Atelier Riri as the founder and principal.

With the background of working in a design media after receiving his architecture degree, Riri has a rather unique milestone of pursuing his career in architecture. Rather than gaining experience from working with senior architects, Riri earned his architecture basics by doing his media and publication task which was interviewing many well-known architects. Riri began his design career by moonlighting in 2006 before establishing Atelier Riri in 2010. His breakthrough project, Kiri House, which gained many national and international coverages along with a nomination in Aga Khan Awards, became a trigger for him to focus and pursue architect as his life-long profession.

Looking back, Atelier Riri and many of the firm’s finished projects are a perfect example of a growing and developing architecture firm. This is also mentioned by Ary Indra through his foreword for the book, that by looking at Riri’s journey, we could see a constant growth towards a better design. Moreover, Ary Indra mentioned how Riri as an architect has great possibilities ahead by keep finding his own perfect ‘taste’ without ever being trapped in an architecture trend. During the book discussion, Riri highlighted how this book will be a starting point instead of an end destination. Riri hoped that in the future, his firm could develop better quality and do more impact towards the architecture scene in Indonesia and beyond.

The book “A Design for Life” will be available at local bookstores in September. Don’t miss out!
