[English text below] Kesempatan untuk merancang sebuah proyek yang dimiliki sendiri adalah mimpi bagi banyak arsitek. Selain arsitek dapat dengan bebas menuangkan ide-ide mereka tanpa ada batasan dari luar, mereka juga dapat menunjukkan ciri khas desain mereka kepada orang banyak. Studio Popo Danes, dimiliki dan didesain oleh arsitek Bali, Popo Danes, adalah salah saru contohnya. Terletak di Denpasar, Bali, The Studio adalah penambahan baru dari bangunan eksisting dan merupakan bagian dari Danes Art Veranda yang memilki fungsi lain seperti The Gallery dan Veranda Café. Pada awalnya, kompleks ini adalah rumah pribadi untuk keluarga Danes, sebuah komunitas yang terpisah dari publik. Setelah dilakukan renovasi, kompleks ini menjadi ruang publik, menyediakan ruang-ruang untuk berbagai pertemuan dan kegiatan seni dan budaya. Jelas bahwa inilah ciri khas desain yang ingin ditunjukkan oleh Popo Danes – mengapresiasi seni dan budaya melalui arsitektur.
Sejalan dengan apresiasi terhadap seni dan budaya, Popo Danes mendesain The Studio, tempat kerjanya, untuk menghargai alam. Sebagian besar tapak dialokasikan sebagai ruang terbuka hijau, sedangkan bangunannya sendiri hanya memanfaatkan tapak tanah yang minim. Hasilnya adalah bangunan bertingkat tiga yang ramping dengan sisi panjangnya menghadap area terbuka. Bukaan yang lebar pada The Studio memungkinkan masuknya cahaya dan udara alami sehingga mengurangi pemanfaatan lampu dan AC. Orientasi bangunan yang mengarah ke taman juga menghasilkan kondisi bekerja yang tenang dan pemandangan ke arah taman tropis yang teduh. Dengan adanya bukaan besar yang mengarah ke taman juga mengaburkan batasan antara ruang luar dan ruang dalam dan menghasilkan pengalaman ruang yang mengalir.
The privilege of being able to design a self-owned project is a dream for many architects. Not only could the architect manifest their ideas without outsider restriction, but it also gives the possibility to promote the architects’ very own design image to the public. Popo Danes Studio, owned and designed by Balinese architect, Popo Danes, is one example. Located in Denpasar, Bali, The Studio is a new extension to the existing building and a part of Danes Art Veranda comprising other functions, including The Gallery and Veranda Café. Originally, the complex was a private home to the Danes family, a separated community from the public, providing spaces for numerous art and culture meetings and events. It is obvious that this was the image Popo Danes wants to show – appreciating art and culture through architecture.
Along with the art and culture appreciation, Popo Danes designs The Studio, the main workspace for the architect, to be respectful to nature. The majority of the site is allocated for an open courtyard, meanwhile, the building only took the minimal plot of land. The result is a three-story slim building with the longer side of the mass-oriented towards the courtyard. The Studio then maximizes openings to be thoroughly penetrated by natural light and air, reducing the use of indoor lightings as well as air conditioning. The building orientation towards the inner garden creates peaceful working conditions and a beautiful vista of a lush tropical garden. Moreover, ample opening towards the garden fades the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces and creates a seamless spatial experience.
