The Economical Compact House
[English text below] Merancang rumah dengan biaya terbatas kerap kali justru menjadi kesempatan bagi arsitek dan pemilik untuk menciptakan desain yang baik dan tetap fungsional serta nyaman dihuni. DI dalam proyek ini pemilik menghendaki sebuah rumah yang ekonomis atau terjangkau untuk dihuni oleh dirinya beserta ke lima anaknya yang sudah beranjak dewasa.
Di sini arsitek membuat layout rumah yang sederhana menggunakan grid dan modul 3m x 3m. Bentangan tiga meter ini membuat struktur menjadi sederhana, ramping, dan ekonomis serta efisien dalam penggunaan material. Material bangunan dipilih yang murah namun berfungsi baik. Beberapa bahan bangunan sengaja ditampilkan apa adanya tanpa finishing seperti dinding dan lantai beton untuk menekan biaya. Bentuk rumah dirancang cermat dengan banyak bukaan bertujuan agar mendapat cahaya matahari dan aliran udara segar ke dalam rumah.
Halaman yang terbentuk akibat bentuk rumah menjadi area bermain yang menyenangkan.
Layout rumahnya sendiri dirancang dengan dua sayap berbentuk L yang masing-masing membentuk zona berbeda. Sayap pertama terdiri atas ruang duduk, ruang makan yang merangkap ruang kerja, dapur, dan kamar tidur utama. Sedangkan sayap kedua berisi tiga kamar yang sama besar. Setiap kamar memiliki pintu ke arah koridor penghubung, juga pintu ke arah taman yang dapat diakses dari luar.
Dari sini terlihat bahwa rumah murah pun bisa mendapat beberapa hal-hal mewah yang tercipta secara sederhana meskipun pembangunannya hanya memakan biaya kurang dari 30 juta rupiah termasuk biaya pembuatan turap pagar setinggi sekitar satu meter sekeliling tapak.
Low-budget houses frequently present an opportunity for both the house owner and house designer. Good architecture can simultaneously minimize cost while maximizing function and livability. In the case of this house, the owner requires an affordable house for himself and his five grown-up children.
The architect-designed a simple layout following a 3×3 meters grid and module. Such a system allows for efficient use of materials and simple and thin beams. Building materials are chosen based on cost and functionality. Some are left exposed without finishing, such as the unpainted walls and bare concrete floors to further reduce cost. The shape of the house and several well-placed ventilation openings passes plenty of natural light and fresh air into every room.
The courtyard formed by the shape of the house makes for a pleasant playing area for the children.
The two wings of the L-shaped house organize the house into different zones. The first wing consists of a living room, a dining room that doubles as the study, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a master bedroom. The second wing accommodates three same-sized bedrooms. Each room has an internal door that links to a narrow skylighted interior corridor, and also an external door that can be accessed directly from outside the house, providing additional freedom for its occupants.
This design proves that the occupants can enjoy luxuries through simple measures. The construction only costs approximately thirty million rupiahs, including the cost to build a one-meter high retaining wall around the site.
