We live in Southeast Asia, but it does not necessarily make design and buildings in this area also have similarities. ASEAN, which now consists of ten countries, actually has their own diversity and characteristics of the buildings. The different socio-cultural conditions, education, and work experiences make the architects in each countries have a different and various design approach.
Through Cover Story for ARCHINESIA #15, we share the result of Round Table Discussion which is one of event series in Archinesia Week 2019. We invited seven architects from five countries in ASEAN, namely Antonius Richard (RAD+ar), Adjie Negara (KIND), and Danny Wicaksono (studiodasar) from Indonesia, BC Ang (WHBC Architects, Malaysia), Arvin Pangilinan (WTA Architecture & Design Studio, Phillipines), Vasu Virajsilp (VaSLab, Thailand), also Nguyen Hoang Manh (MIA Design Studio, Vietnam). Each architects discussed how their background and their contexts came to form their own design approach now.
One special Built Project that gets special attentions from our editor is Kampung Admiralty by WOHA which won ‘Building of The Year’ in World Architecture Festival 2018. Kampung Admiralty not only built an architecture, but also a new life method. Besides that, we also represent Rumah Gerbong by Studio SA_e, New Futura from SOM, and Avian Tower by Archimetric.
We proud to get a chance to interview
