ASIAN GAMES 2018
Indonesia’s fifty-sixyear-old national sports complex, Gelora Bung Karno, is undergoing massive renovation work inpreparation to host the 18th Asian Games, which will run from August to September of 2018. This legacy is cyclical, as the Gelora complex was initially constructed to host the 4th Asian Games in 1962.Six original sporting venues were used to host the1962 Games: the Main Stadium, Madya (previously Hockey and Athletics) Stadium, Aquatic Stadium,Istora (Sports Palace), the Tennis Court, and the Basketball Stadium.
Now, the venues in Gelora are being renovated and appended to prepare it for another era of showmanship. Come August, the eyes of spectators all over Asia will be on Indonesia— specially on Gelora, where the opening and closing ceremonies are planned to take place in its76,000-seater Main Stadium.
