(Bahasa text below) JAT Talk 2018 is one of the triennial event series by Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia (IAI) Jakarta, Jakarta Architecture Triennale (JAT) 2018. This event was held at Samisara Ballroom, Sopo Del Tower, Jakarta, 12-13th December 2018. This year, JAT discussed “Decoding Jakarta: Involution + Confluidity”, the possibility of developing an urban water settlement along with its possible implementation and regulation. This theme was chosen because of the emergence of questions about Jakarta as a coastal city and the increase for urban growth. Not only practitioners and academic researchers, but the discussion also invited local and international experts from the related field to share their ideas, experiences, and researches.

The first day of JAT Talk 2018 discussed the possibility of a sustainable water settlement carried out with the current technology and system. Moderated by Sigit Kusumawijaya, The JAT Talk 2018 presents speakers namely Budi Pradono, Frederico Gobato and Andrea Aragorne from Latitude, Wataru Kurihara from Shimizu Corporation, Yulianto Prihatmaji from Islamic University of Indonesia Yogyakarta, and Wijanarka from Palangkaraya Kalimantan University. One of the speakers, Frederico Gobato, shared their experience in designing floating urbanism or urban dwellings on the edge of the oceans, lakes, and rivers.

On its second day, moderated by Andesa Hermintomo, the talk show discussed the readiness of regulation in Indonesia to face the increasing of innovative water settlement concepts. During that day, JAT Talk presented Joe Quirk from Seasteading Institute, a research institution to study about the social issue on water settlement. Jan Koen from Waterstudio NL., a Netherland-based architecture firm, shared interesting ideas about the development of Blue City and their experience in designing on-water modern residential.

These ideas certainly can only be implemented in a place with adjustments to the local regulations. The regulator’s view is represented by Tri Danny Anggoro from the Ministry of Marine Affairs And Fisheries and Dian Irawati from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works. Real Estate Indonesia (REI), also shares views on their position and attitude in the idea of water settlements, regarding the added value and economic profits and loss.
