Located in BSD, Tangerang, Astra BIZ Center stands on a six-hectare site as a showroom complex for several vehicle brands. The complex is designed to accommodate its function on an urban scale. Using glass façade and frontally facing the main road, the showroom encourages passersby to see through the displayed vehicle within the complex. To better represent the complex as a vehicle showroom, the building form is embellished with a curved-shaped roof that represents the aerodynamic character of a vehicle.
The complex is comprised of several pavilions to differentiate the display of vehicle with a variety of brands. These pavilions are connected with pedestrian facilities and a large sunken plaza, thus enabling the complex to also function as a gathering spot for the public. With a functioning open space surrounding the pavilion, the showroom complex is expected to be a perfect spot for automotive enthusiasts and exhibition.
Hidden away from the visitors’ sight, the workshop—an essential element in a vehicle showroom—is positioned beneath the ground level to allow more space for the display and public area. Even though located on the basement, the workshop could still enjoy cross ventilation and natural daylight thanks to the several voids that are arranged across the site. The presence of the cross ventilation especially helps to release vehicle combustions naturally from the workshop.
By only rearranging a typical plan of a typical showroom, it is possible for a showroom complex to provide an extensive open space while maintaining the need for a huge capacity workshop. Astra BIZ Center becomes a fine example of how a showroom complex could integrate a public space as its main element.
